"26301" by Katherine M. Crim is a joyful celebration of Clarksburg, West Virginia, brought to life in vibrant watercolor. This original piece transforms the city’s iconic zip code into a colorful collage of local history, culture, and pride—each number brimming with hand-painted detail and storytelling.

This piece is part of a public art project, with the original installation hanging in downtown Clarksburg. The artist donated her time, talent, and materials for this project now you can own a copy.

Within the composition, Katy weaves in beloved Clarksburg symbols: the iconic Robinson Grand Theater sign anchors the “2” with a pop of nostalgic flair, while the state of West Virginia spans across the “6” and “3,” rendered in rich shades of blue and green with a gleaming star marking Clarksburg’s place on the map. Scattered marbles spill from a glass jar, nodding to the booming marble and glass industry of Clarksburg's past.

The painting continues with a cheerful red trolley - known as The Harrison - rolling through the “0,” celebrating local transportation history, and finishes with three runners charging through the final “1,” a vibrant tribute to community vitality, wellness, and the annual events that bring people together. Above it all, colorful pennants flutter in the breeze, nodding to the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival and the official seal of the City of Clarksburg takes its place proudly in the top right, tying past and present together.

This piece is more than a zip code—it’s a vivid homage to the spirit of Clarksburg, full of motion, memory, and meaning. With its mix of realistic touches and whimsical color, “26301” captures the hometown heart and heritage that define this West Virginia community.
